Friday 1st November 2024

  • Registration at Cape Town Fish Market Mykonos 5pm – 7pm
  • Formal race briefing at 6:30pm
  • Collect race pack, timing tags and bus tickets
  • Discount drinks vouchers from Brauhaus
  • Friday dinner and social at swimmers’ own cost

Saturday 2nd November 2024

  • 12km swimmers meet at Casino Parking Mykonos
  • Bus departs for Preekstoel at 4:30am
  • 6km swimmers to meet at Pearly’s at 4:00am
  • Arrive at Preekstoel at 5:30am
  • Swim starts at 6:00am
  • 6km swimmers bag transfer to Pearly’s
  • 12km swimmers bag transfer to Cape Town Fish Market Mykonos
  • 9am swim cut off at Pearly’s for ALL swimmers
  • 6km swim finish at Pearly’s
  • 12km swim finish at Cape Town Fish Market
  • Complementary meal for all competitors from Cape Town Fish Market followed by prize giving

Race Rules

  1. Pre-entries only. Online entries close 1st October @ 18h00 (or when limit reached)
  2. Compulsory to wear Big Bay Events timing tags
  3. Compulsory to wear an inflated swim buoy. Either your own or purchase an event buoy
  4. Compulsory to wear event swim cap
  5. 3-hour cut off at 6km mark applies to 6km and 12km events. Any swimmer not reaching the 6km mark at 9:00am may be removed from the water (subject to safety review on race day)
  6. All swimmers to hand their event goody bag with warm clothing to the race organisers prior to race start

Race Logistics

  1. Due to early start registration will be compulsory on Friday afternoon
  2. All swimmers will be issued with an event goody bag
  3. Event goody bag ONLY to be taken on bus to the start. Clothing worn to the start to fit into the goody bag for transfer to race finish. Please ensure your clothing fits into the bag, so wear minimal clothing and preferably slops for footwear
  4. 12km swimmers to park at Mykonos Green
  5. 6km swimmers to park at Pearly’s
  6. Busses depart from Mykonos Green and Pearly’s at 4:30am, for transfer to race start at Preekstoel arriving no later than 5:30am
  7. Entrance fees to SanParks Reserve are prepaid for swimmers on the bus.
  8. Final check and race briefing takes place between 5:30 & 5:45am
  9. Goody bags loaded onto trailer and transferred to race finish

Race Safety & Swimmer Support

  1. Compulsory to wear an inflated swim buoy. Either your own or purchase an event buoy
  2. 3-hour cut off at 6km mark applies to 6km and 12km events. Any swimmer not reaching the 6km mark at 9:00am may be removed from the water.
  3. 6km finish point will be marked with a large buoy
  4. Race route beyond 6km to be marked with inflated swim buoys.
  5. Inflatable boat feeding stations to be anchored at 2km, 7km, 9km & 11km points. Fixed station feed point will be situated on the SanParks jetty.
  6. Mixture of Maltodextrin carb powder, rooibos tea and honey supplied for feeding. (Staple feed for most English Channel Swimmers)
  7. Additional roving safety boats to monitor the field
  8. Lifeguards on paddle craft will be spread throughout the course to monitor swimmers
  9. Swimmers welcome to have their personal support subject to strict adherence of instructions from safety crew and pre-approval by the event safety team.
